Meta Plans To Unveil Its First True AR Glasses Come 2027

Meta intends to launch its first set of smart glasses with a display in 2025 along with a smartwatch with a neural interface to operate them.

For 2027, the company plans to release its first set of fully functional augmented reality glasses, which CEO Mark Zuckerberg has said could one day be as popular as phones.

The Tech Giant Is Continuously Investing In Future Technology

The glasses, which are anticipated to be rather pricey, will allegedly be able to present avatars as superb holograms overlaid on the actual world.

In 2024, employees will have the opportunity to test the product first before it is released to the general public as part of Meta's "Innovation" line of cutting-edge smart glasses for early adopters.

In addition, the company talked about the various AR and VR products it is releasing before its fully functional AR glasses are ready, Engadget notes.

It appears to be launching Ray-Ban Stories 2, which was created in collaboration with Luxottica, this fall.

Later this year, the Quest 3 headset-which is anticipated to be twice as thin and powerful as the Quest 2-will also be accessible.

Furthermore, Meta promises to introduce a VR headset in 2024 under the codename "Ventura," which it intends to commercialize at the most competitive price in the consumer VR market.

Following that, meta intends to release the third-generation Ray-Ban Stories in 2025, one year later.

It will have a "viewfinder" display that can read incoming texts, scan QR codes, and instantly translate messages into several languages.

According to reports, users would be able to operate the glasses with hand motions and eventually enter messages using a virtual keyboard.

Meta's Roadmap To The Future Is Slowly Shaping Up

The specifics were revealed on Tuesday at a roadmap presentation of Meta's AR and VR activities that was shared with thousands of employees in its Reality Labs section.

Together, they demonstrate how Meta, despite a number of setbacks and broader cost-cutting efforts across the company, intends to continue investing in consumer hardware.

The Verge says that employees were informed about the VR plan and that Meta will release its flagship Quest 3 headset later this year.

It will be two times slimmer, at least twice as powerful, and slightly more expensive than the $400 Quest 2 headset.

It will prominently incorporate mixed reality experiences that do not completely immerse the wearer, due to front-facing cameras that pass through video of the real world, like the recently unveiled Quest Pro.

The company's vice president for VR, Mark Rabkin, informed staff members at the presentation that Meta has sold nearly 20 million Quest headsets to date.

In the coming years, other major technology companies besides Meta also want to release AR and VR glasses and headsets.

According to Engadget, it is anticipated that Apple will unveil its highly awaited mixed reality headset at WWDC in June.

It is anticipated to cost up to $3,000 and contain cutting-edge features including dual 4K monitors and controller-free input.

However, rumors claim that Apple is reportedly working on a less expensive model that more people will be able to purchase.
