6 Reasons Why Buying a PS4 is Still a Good Idea

Even if the PlayStation 4 was released in 2013, it's impressive that it still functions just as well now. Add that to the fact that the next generation of the PlayStation series was released in 2020. It makes you wonder if it's still a good idea, it is. Here are a couple of reasons why.

1. They're Cheaper Now

Various device models tend to get cheaper when a newer version of it hits the market. Since the PS5 is the latest model, people will prefer it over its predecessor. The PS4 1TB was priced at $350 upon release, and now you can purchase it for $300 at Best Buy

Of course, it's an entirely different price range when it comes to pre-owned consoles. Depending on how much you will use it, how many games you'll download, and what you'll use it for, you can even buy one for as low as $50.

2. Plenty of New Games Are Still Compatible

It's a basic company tactic to stop the support for games in older consoles so people would buy the newest release. However, most of the games you can play on PS5 consoles can still be played with the PS4.

There are a number of games that are exclusive to the PlayStation 5, but simple research will let you know if the game you want to play is still available for the older console. Although, unlike PS4, the PS5 is capable of running a game with up to 120 FPS, and has a 4K display.

3. It's a Good Media Player

The PlayStation 4 supports several streaming services, and you can easily use it as a media player. That is, of course, if your TV doesn't already have features wherein you can already download the apps directly into it.

If that's your only use for it, you can even opt for pre-owned ones since you won't need much processing power for streaming content. It will also prevent you from using up your PS5's controller battery which you can set aside solely for playing video games.

4. It Can Serve As Your Backup

You can never know when your console might act up, and if you're an avid gamer and can't go through a day without having a controller in your hands, you might need a backup console just in case. As mentioned before, PS4s still support most games that you can play on the PS5, so it's unlikely that you encounter any problems.

5. It's a Good Addition to Your Collection

Other than the reasons mentioned above, you can also purchase it for the sake of collecting consoles alone. Not everyone gets to say that they have all the PlayStation models from the first one to the latest.

If you have a game room, you could start purchasing older models as well and line them up like trophies. It will be harder to look for the older models since very few are out there now, but there are actually vendors who collect old consoles, clean and fix them up and sell them again.

6. It Will Increase in Value After a While

If you haven't noticed, classic gaming consoles are now increasing in price. That's because they are no longer manufactured, making them higher in value and somewhat of a collector's item. If you're careful with your console and it still functions properly after a couple of years, you might get a hefty price for it, and collectors are almost always willing to buy them from you.
