Yeti Recalls Nearly 2 Million Products for Magnet Ingestion Hazard

Yeti is recalling a few of its products for consumer safety.

The company recently announced it is voluntarily recalling some of its coolers and gear cases as they put their owners at risk of serious injury or death.

The company is willing to offer a replacement product or a full refund for those willing to heed the product recall.

Yeti mentioned in its announcement that it is recalling the Hopper M20 Soft Backpack Cooler, Hopper M30 Soft Cooler 1.0 and 2.0, and SideKick Dry Gear Case products sold between Mar. 2018 and Jan. 2023 due to the mag-lined closures on these products. 

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission's (CPSC) recall announcement, the magnet-lined closures of these items can fail and detach from their heat-sealed plastic strip.

When swallowed, the magnets can cause serious injury or death, especially when two more high-powered magnets were ingested. Should a person manage to swallow two or more of these magnets, they can be attracted to each other or to another metal object and become lodged in the digestive system, resulting in perforations, twisting, and/or intestine blockage. 

Infection, blood poisoning, and death can also occur if people managed to swallow these magnets.

While the CPSC has yet to receive a report of any injury or magnet ingestions, it received 1,399 reports of problems with the magnet-lined closures. Unfortunately, Yeti sold about 1.9 million of the products it is recalling, with an additional 40,760 of them sold in Canada alone. 

As such, both Yeti and the CPSC advise people to immediately stop using the recalled products and contact Yeti to receive a full refund or a replacement product equal to or greater than the recalled item's price. 

Customers who wish to get a replacement product for their Yeti Hopper M20 Soft Backpack Cooler can get a Tundra 45 Hard Cooler as a replacement, while those who wish to replace their Sidekick Dry can get a Daytrip Lunch Box or Lunch Bag.

On the other hand, Yeti customers who want a replacement product for their Hopper M30 1.0 can get a Hopper Flip 18 Soft Coller, while those turning in their Hopper M30 2.0 can get a Tundra 65 Hard cooler as a replacement product.

How To Get a Refund/Replacement

Yeti advises people who wish to get their recalled product refunded or replaced with the above-mentioned items or another product of equal or greater value should fill out the form on RQA, Inc. Those who wish to get a refund will receive it in the form of a Yeti gift card when an additional value depending on product and market.

Once the form is filed and submitted, Yeti will provide customers with a prepaid shipping label and packaging material for them to return their product to the company. 

Yeti will only send refunds and/or replacement products once the company receives and validates the recalled products from customers.
