Zippyshare is Shutting Down After 17 Years – But Why?

The successfully famous file-hosting website known for its features of having very simple online, built-in file storage, with a cleaner interface, offering no charging fees to its vast users, Zippyshare officially announced on March 19 through their press release that they will be no longer operating by the end of this month, March 31.

Going back, Zippyshare was one of the largest sites on the web, remarkably founded in 2016. It is recognized as a website generating its revenue through putting up advertisements and with over 43 million visitors every month as reported by BleepingComputer.

With only nearly two weeks before Zippyshare close their website, their users are then advised to have backups of their respective important files to prevent loss of files.

Reason Behind the Shutdown

Zippyshare mentioned several apprehensible reasons as to why are they going to seriously close their site. For these reasons, they substantially highlighted two. The primary reason is due to their seemingly shrinking revenue making the site no longer profitable. The site operators noted on Local Today News that as people choose to visit and support the rise of more advanced file-sharing services with far better features and performance, the condition of traffic on their site is rapidly decreasing as well.

Further, the frail state of the site is also influenced by the rampant existence of aggressive ad blockers. Distinctly, the general population of site users wants to enjoy free services and ad-free content. On the other side, it is also to be noted and understand that the proliferation of ads is the source of life for every website.  Without the presence of ads, websites may not continue to exist.

The second reason however is pointed to the high demand for electricity costs that escalated to 2.5 times over the years.  To be able to maintain their site's massive server infrastructure, they are fully aware that they have to keep up with the significant change in their fees. But unfortunately, Zippyshare admitted that they can no longer keep up their balance with the deteriorating operation of their site.

The Journey of Zippyshare

Way back in 2007 during its first anniversary, Zippyshare introduced the file size limit of their online storage to 100 MB. As years progressed, some hardware upgrades have been made by their operators to be on par with the ever-changing technology and likewise meet the needs of their users.

One of their successful upgrades is the launching of Zippyshare Uploader, where their users can easily upload their files without the need of using a web browser. Much to this accomplishment, Zippyshare also exceeded its 100 MB limit to 200 MB limit.

On the contrary, as Zippyshare remains on the market without visible attempts in changing its form, the view of its users remains pretty much the same. With the rise of competition in the technological industry, the website, therefore, failed to create innovations to ensure its place as one of the veterans and as one of the top 1000 most visited domains of today, according to TorrentFreak.

The collapse of Zippyshare is surely a big revelation, which in turn might serve as an important reflection to other running websites.
