Elon Musk Teases Tesla Cybertruck Delivery Event on Q3 2023

Tesla announced its plan to create its very first electric pickup truck four years ago. However, due to reasons that were not disclosed, the EV maker was not able to proceed with this plan right away. Recently, the company's founder Elon Musk confirmed that the Tesla Cybertruck will finally see the light of day this year.

Tesla Cybertruck Volume Production Not Expected to Roll Until Next Year

Musk announced during an investors' meeting Wednesday that Tesla will hold a delivery event for the Cybertruck by the end of the third quarter of 2023. The production of the first Tesla Cybertruck is expected to begin this summer. However, electric car fans will have to wait some more for the mass manufacturing of the said unit, as reported by The Verge.

"It takes time to get the manufacturing line going," Musk said. The Tesla CEO admitted that the production of an electric pickup truck is different from the way that other vehicles are made.

Nonetheless, Musk's announcement is a good sign that the EV manufacturer is still committed to launching Cybertruck. Following the company's initial announcement of the Cybertruck, it easily became one of the most anticipated Tesla offerings. Unfortunately, the recent years did not see any updates on the status of Cybertruck's development, and the target release of the product kept being pushed back.

When asked about the specs of the Tesla Cybertruck, Musk refused to share details for now as these will all be revealed during the delivery event set in Q3 2023.

"One thing I am confident of saying is that it's an incredible product," Musk said, noting that the Tesla Cybertruck will be a "Hall of Famer."

Elektrek shared the possible reasons why Tesla took a long time to set the official launch of the Cybertruck. The number one reason is the material to be used on the Tesla product, which is stainless steel. Using this material poses a challenge in manufacturing since it cannot be stamped into fenders and it is hard to form it to a new shape because of its elastic properties. Furthermore, special welding techniques are needed to fuse stainless steel members.

Musk Teases a 'Very Radical Product' Out of the Tesla Cybertruck

The public still has no clue about the special features and specs of the Tesla Cybertruck. Although, some people from California have witnessed the prototypes of the electric vehicle roaring around the streets, hence giving them ideas on what the Cybertruck's design would look like.

Nonetheless, Musk described the Tesla Cybertruck as a "very radical product." Tesla chief vehicle designer Franz von Holzhausen also said a similar statement back in January regarding the Cybertruck. Therefore, Tesla fans can expect something that they have never seen on the road before, even from Tesla itself.

"We've pulled people away from their kind of normal comfort zone and brought them something that's just radically different and will be on the street radically different and, you know, if you're not used to attention might be a little tough in the beginning," von Holzhausen said.
