5 Must-Have Characters for Your Honkai: Star Rail Teams

Honkai: Star Rail, like any HoYoverse game, puts emphasis on team composition and synergy. While players are free to pick four characters from their roster to form their teams, choosing who goes haphazardly can mean the difference between enjoying the game and getting stressed from it.

Here are some of the characters you'll welcome with open arms to your roster thanks to their ability to make battles easier to win.

Enemies so early in the game can and will defeat you if you're not careful. Though you don't start with any healers in your team, and you won't get one until you get to a certain Trailblazer level, rolling the gacha could get you one of Honkai: Star Rail's many five-star characters that can turn the tide of battle easily.

Bailu is one such character. Though her damage output is low, her utility isn't; she keeps your team in the fight through her healing skill and ultimate - much-needed skills while in battle.

The description of Bailu's skill says that it heals the character of your choosing and two random characters. However, that's deceptively oversimplified. There is a chance that Bailu's skill can heal the same character twice or thrice, allowing you to bring a low HP character back from the brink.

Her ultimate not only heal your characters but also provides them with a buff that either recovers health lost from debuffs or resuscitates them if they're somehow defeated with it active; it only happens once per fight, though; she'd be too OP otherwise.

Seele

While Seele's quantum element is largely situational for most, if not all, of the game's 1.0 version, her damage output is not. She can dish out huge amounts of damage to enemies whether she's going up against those weak to quantum or not.

Additionally, her talent, Resurgence, allows her to take an extra turn after she defeats an enemy. Add that to her ultimate's ability to refresh Resurgence, and you have a character that can attack up to three to four times - that means massive damage.

Natasha

Natasha is the character players get when they reach a certain trailblazer level in-game. While her healing ability isn't the same as Bailu's, she can still keep a team in fighting form through them.

If utilized properly and coupled with March 7th's shield, her skill heals characters over time, while her ultimate provides a team-wide heal after a devastating enemy AoE attack.

While her damage output is low, considering she is a healer, first and foremost, her being a physical character means she'll be seeing a lot of battles than Bailu since there are many physical-weak enemies in-game.

Herta

March 7th may have an AoE attack, but she is geared more toward supporting her teammates than dealing damage. Herta, on the other hand, provides a free-to-play option for people who want AoE ice damage on-demand.

Her skill and ultimate targets the entire enemy team, allowing you to potentially freeze any and all enemy team members whenever you want. That, along with her passive abilities turning her into a literal crit rate-generating Beyblade when you bring down multiple enemies' health to less than 50%, makes her a force to be reckoned with.

Asta

Asta's primary purpose is to buff your team with damage and speed bonuses while providing fire-based damage on the side. While she may soon be overshadowed by other fire-based characters, her buffs are not something to scoff at as of press time. Her skill allows her to deal damage against a random number of enemy team members, while her ultimate provides characters with a speed buff for two turns.

This speed buff may provide an extra turn for characters with enough speed stats, allowing them to deal damage before the enemy team usually does. However, players would need to heavily invest in her kit to make her a viable part of the team early to mid-game.
