Launched in 2013 by brothers Pavel and Nikolai Durov, Telegram became increasingly popular due to its focus on privacy and security. The app uses end-to-end encryption for all messages, meaning only the sender and receiver can read the messages. Telegram also offers features like secret chats that can be self-destructed after a certain amount of time.
However, for whatever reason, there may be a time when you need t want to delete your Telegram account. In this article, we will guide you on deleting your Telegram account through the app and the web.
Warning! Before Deleting Telegram Account:
Before deleting your Telegram account, it's important to be aware of the consequences. Once you delete your account, all your data, including your messages, media files, contacts, and groups, will be permanently deleted from Telegram's servers and cannot be restored.
If you have important messages or media files that you want to keep, make sure to back them up before deleting your account. You can export your Telegram data by going to "Settings" > "Export Telegram Data" on the app or web interface.
Deleting your account will also remove you from all the groups and channels you have joined, and you will lose access to all the information and discussions in those groups. If you want to continue using Telegram, consider leaving the groups and channels before deleting your account to maintain access to that information.
It's also worth noting that if you have used your Telegram account to sign up for third-party services or websites, deleting your account may affect your access to those services.
Once you consider these options, you are now ready to delete a Telegram.
How to delete a Telegram account through the app:
- Open the Telegram app on your phone or tablet.
- Tap on the three horizontal lines icon at the top left corner of the screen.
- Tap on the "Settings" option.
- Scroll down and select the "Privacy and Security" option.

Tap on the "Delete Account Now" option. - Enter your phone number associated with the account and tap on the arrow icon.
- Telegram will send you a confirmation code via text message or call. Enter the code to verify your account.
- Once you have verified your account, you will be asked to provide a reason for deleting your account. Select the reason and tap on the "Delete My Account" button.
Delete Telegram through Web-based tool
You can also used a web-based tool provided to delete your account. And also to create and manage Telegram bots.
- Open your web browser and navigate to https://my.telegram.org/auth

- A verification code will be sent to your phone number. Enter the code in the verification box provided.
- Once you are logged in, you will see a list of options to manage your account. Select the "Delete Account" option.
- Telegram will ask you to provide a reason for deleting your account. Choose the reason and click on the "Delete Account" button to confirm.
