ChatGPT for iOS: Here's What You Have to Know, What to Expect

ChatGPT now has an official iOS app.

OpenAI recently announced that it had developed and published the official ChatGPT app on iOS devices for those who want to use the generative AI tool on the go whenever, wherever.

The company promises that Android devices will get their very own version next in the foreseeable future.

ChatGPT App For iOS Details

OpenAI mentioned in its announcement that its official ChatGPT app would be free to use on iOS devices and several other features, such as its Whisper open-source speech-recognition system, enabling voice inputs for user prompts.

When using the app, users can expect instant answers with precise information without going through ads or multiple results and tailored advice on various queries like cooking tips, travel plans, or even writing thoughtful messages.

OpenAI also equipped the ChatGPT app with creative inspiration, allowing it to suggest gift ideas, outline presentations, and even write the perfect poem. It can also double as someone's work partner - it provides feedback on ideas, summarize notes, and even provide technical topic assistance.

Last but not least, the app can teach new languages, modern history, and other topics at the user's convenience.

Although the previously mentioned features are available in the app's free version, it also offers a premium subscription for those looking for a little extra and are willing to pay for it. Its premium version, ChatGPT Plus, provides subscribers exclusive access to GPT-4's capabilities as well as early access to features and faster prompt response times.

OpenAI mentioned that those in the US would be the first to experience everything its ChatGPT app offers as it slowly rolls the app out to other countries in the coming weeks.

"With the ChatGPT app for iOS, we're taking another step towards our mission by transforming state-of-the-art research into useful tools that empower people while continuously making them more accessible," OpenAI said.

The launch of the official ChatGPT app is a boon for all ChatGPT users. You may recall that companies have been warning people of scam ChatGPT apps that are malware in disguise. Meta Chief Security Officer Guy Rosen said that these scammers are trying to capitalize on the surge in interest in Generative AI, per Engadget.

Company Prohibition Against ChatGPT App Usage

While OpenAI's ChatGPT app is a boon for many people, the same cannot be said for employees in the tech industry. 9to5Mac reported that Apple, JPMorgan Chase, and Verizon had banned their employees from using the app as a preventative measure to avoid any potential leaks of confidential data from them.

You may recall that the UK's National Cyber Security Centre previously warned that OpenAI, ChatGPT's provider, can see, read, and store the queries people input to ChatGPT and even incorporate them in some way into future versions.

The agency also found another risk chatbots pose to individuals and companies - that the queries LLM providers stored in their systems, which may include user-identifiable information, might get hacked, leaked, or accidentally made publicly accessible.
