Ubisoft Reveals Information, Release Date for Avatar: Legends of Pandora

Get ready to return to Pandora in the comfort of your home this Holiday season.

Video game developing company Ubisoft recently revealed more information about its video game based on James Cameron's epic sci-fi franchise, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, along with a definite release date for gamers to look forward to.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora suffered through numerous delays before Ubisoft gave its definite release date; it was previously expected to be released sometime in April.

Avatar: Frontiers Of Pandora New Details

Ubisoft mentioned during its Ubisoft Forward event that Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is an open-world first-person action-adventure game developed by Massive Entertainment in collaboration with Cameron's production company Lightstorm Entertainment and Disney, per the company's statement.

The game lets players take the role of a Na'vi who awakens on Pandora years after being abducted as a child and raised by humanity's Resources Development Administration (RDA). Armed with nothing, players must reconnect with their Na'vi roots and learn what it means to be one to push back against the RDA and the threat they pose to Pandora.

Ubisoft's Lucy O'Brien said that Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora features a standalone story, meaning that the game's events aren't connected to the movie franchise's plot, per PlayStation Blog. However, it's unclear if the game will reference Jake Sully and his adventures across the moon world and its natives.

Additionally, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will feature a new location never-before-seen in the movie: the Western Frontier. While the game will be mostly shown in a first-person perspective, it will switch to a third-person one when players take to the skies on their customizable companion mountain banshee (or ikran in Na'vi), per creative director Magnus Jansén.

Being a Na'vi raised by humans, players get to familiarize themselves with weaponry and gear from both sides - guns, bows, staffsling, and even rocket launchers.

Players could also experience what it means to be a Na'vi firsthand by interacting with other Na'vi and cooking their food, which may grant buffs to them. The inclusion of these mechanics means that the game may encourage players to hunt and forage for ingredients for their meals.
