WhatsApp Could Feature Animated Avatars in Future Update

Animated avatar stickers are coming to WhatsApp on Android devices.

The company behind the popular secure messaging app is reportedly working on a feature that allows users to send animated avatar stickers to other WhatsApp users.

While the feature to send avatar stickers is present on Messenger, the app couldn't send animated avatar stickers as of press time.

WhatsApp, like Facebook and Instagram, has a parent company in the form of Mark Zuckerberg's Meta. As such, it isn't shocking for certain features from other Meta-owned apps to appear in other company-owned apps.

For instance, WhatsApp previously announced the release of two new enhancements regarding the creation of avatars on its iOS and Android apps through Twitter. The first is the newly expanded collection of avatars automatically rolled out to all users.

The second improvement is the ability to configure a user's avatar by taking a photo and using it as their avatar's digital mold to make the creation process automatic. While these improvements are a welcome addition to WhatsApp, WABetaInfo spotted another feature that will make the use of these avatars more fun for WhatsApp users.

According to the publication, the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.15.6 update contains an animated version of the avatar pack WhatsApp recently got.

The animated avatar pack contains stickers that allegedly bring a "significant improvement" that allows users to further enhance their interactions with other users since it will bring a dynamic element to avatars. They also will bring more life and personality to stickers, allowing a more expressive communication experience.

For instance, WhatsApp users can send animated stickers of their avatars laughing out loud, waving at their recipient, and replicating the shape of a heart with their hands (not fingers like in Korean pop culture).

Although the feature is under development, its creation is a boon to WhatsApp's redesigned GIF and sticker picker, which came under the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.12.19 update on June 11. Not only can WhatsApp's Android users enjoy an easier time looking for stickers and GIFs to send, but they can also find and send animated avatar stickers more easily.

Meta has reportedly scheduled when WhatsApp users will use its new animated avatar stickers, though WABetaInfo couldn't procure any information about its release date.

WhatsApp's Other Upcoming Features

WhatsApp has been actively improving its app for users to enjoy and use without issue, and its animated avatar sticker pack is among the latest the company is working on.

You may recall that the company is reportedly working on a feature called "phone number privacy," which will hide users' phone numbers when they add a reaction to a group message. The company is also working on a chat list filter, allowing users to see messages by their classification.

WhatsApp is also planning to add the ability to upload and download high-quality videos and pin and unpin a message automatically after a set period has passed.
