Microsoft, Sony Keep Activision's Call of Duty on PlayStation

Microsoft and Sony signed a 10-year deal to keep the Call of Duty series available on PlayStation.

Head of Xbox, Phil Spencer announced the exciting news on Twitter.

Microsoft and Sony Exclusive Partnership for Call of Duty Only

The Twitter announcement did not directly stated the duration of the deal. However, head of global communications of Xbox, Kari Perez confirmed with The Verge that the 10-year commitment is only exclusive to Call of Duty.

Originally, Microsoft offered Sony to keep "all existing Activision console title on Sony, including future versions in the Call of Duty franchise or any other current Activision franchise on Sony through December 31, 2027."

The deal was first proposed by Microsoft last December 2022 and was changed drastically to cater the announced partnership.

"Even after we cross the finish line for this deal's approval, we will remain focused on ensuring that Call of Duty remains available on more platforms and for more consumers than ever before," vice chair and president for Microsoft, Brad Smith tweeted.

Battle for Activision Blizzard Ends

On July 15, the Federal Trade Commission lost its last attempt to stop Microsoft from acquiring Activision Blizzard.

Despite of that, there are still complications on the U.K. with The Competition of Market Authority (CMA) blocking Microsoft's deal.

The CMA issued a notice of extension on its overall investigation from July 18 to August 29 after reports of Microsoft planning to give up some control on their cloud-gaming business in UK to break the deal.
