Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty: Theories About What to Expect

Another trailer for the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 was just released for the Gamescom event, and we saw a lot more than the previous trailer. If you pay close attention, there are a lot of details that could develop into some interesting theories. Upon dissecting the smallest details in the clip, here are some ideas that might show up in the game.

We Might Lose Johnny, Or Not

Since the main plot of the DLC is that V might be able to get a solution for his/her predicament, which is slowly taking over V's brain, Johnny Silverhand might cease to exist. Removing the Relic means that the engram will no longer be in the protagonist's head.

But, CD Projekt Red could've found a way to keep Silverhand around. After all, he is a major character in the game. One theory is that Songbird, the person who tasked V to save the NUS president in exchange for the cure, but not actually remove the chip.

Instead, she could just halt the process, meaning that Johnny will still be there, but the Relic will stop reprogramming V's brain. It's also possible that the Relic will be transferred to a clone. It's not that impossible since there are people there who are entirely made of cyberware.

More 'Edgerunners' References

Since the DLC has redesigned perks, we can expect new things from the game. The Gamescom trailer made that clear. If you look at the icons for the new perk tree under Technical Abilities, you'll see an outline of David from "Cyberpunk: Edgerunners."

It wasn't indicated what the benefit of the specific perk was, but it's likely that it has something to do with the Sandevistan cyberware. One of the icons shows the mod itself on David's back, while another shows the NeoFiber mod, which increases mitigation chance and strength.

Sadly, that's all the references from the show that can be expected. Although Adam Smasher made an appearance in both the show and the game, the timeline just doesn't align. Also, the show was set mainly in Santo Domingo while the DLC will take place in Dogtown, Pacifica.

Cyberpsychosis Might Be Possible for V

In the base game, you'll be facing a couple of cyberpsychos at the behest of Regina Jones, one of Night City's fixers. She believes that those who are afflicted can be fixed, so she asks V to try and incapacitate the perpetrators instead of killing them.

The trailer shows a red bar with the cyberware icon above it, which points to its purpose and significance. This might mean that the amount or quality of cyberware a player equips might soon have a limit, and exceeding it will lead to a few loose screws in the head.

Just imagine blacking out, waking up at a random place, and having three wanted stars after going on a rampage. That's probably not what happens in the game, but it would be interesting to see what those three bars are for.
