Brew Coffee Like a Pro: Here’s What You’ll Need

Coffee, for a lot of people, is what keeps them up in the morning and gives them the energy to function for the whole day. If you make it right, you'll actually be able to appreciate it more than you already do, and all you need are a few things to brew an amazing cup without making a trip to Starbucks.

1. Coffee Grinder

You'll get a better-tasting brew when you use freshly ground coffee beans, and you can easily get those by grinding them yourself. There are manual grinders, but you'll be better off with an electric one, especially if you drink coffee more than once per day.

There are a lot of electric coffee grinders, but you're better off getting just a small one. It's not advisable to grind all your beans at once since they will lose their freshness over time, which is why a small grinder is all you need.

2. Gooseneck Kettle

Did you know that the temperature at which you brew your coffee makes a huge difference? The ideal temperature to extract the beans' flavor is between 195°F and 205°F. However, that would be difficult if you can't determine how hot the water is when you boil it.

You can use a thermometer, but frankly, it would be too much of a hassle. Instead, you can buy an electric gooseneck kettle that comes with temperature control. Most models automatically shut off when it reaches the temperature you set it to, making it easier to achieve the perfect warmth.

3. Digital Scale

Creating the perfect brew means that you can't just eyeball how much coffee beans you'll use. Even measuring tools like cups and spoons can be inaccurate, especially if you prefer coarse grounds. The best way to measure how much you're using is a scale.

There's an appropriate amount per cup that you need in order to make sure that the brew is not too weak or too strong. For instance, coffee shops use about 10 grams of coffee grounds per cup. Of course, that still depends on how strong you like your drink.

4. Milk Frother & Steamer

You can purchase the steamer and frother separately, but getting both in one device is just as good. The steamer function allows you to heat your milk so it won't affect the temperature of your brewed coffee when you add it in.

The frother makes it possible for you to add that foamy texture to your cup, which helps you get a certain texture. You'll need it if you enjoy drinks like cappuccinos and lattes. If you feel like drinking iced coffee, it also lets you create cold foam.

5. Drip Coffee Pot

Of course, you need a pot where you can pour your coffee, that's if you're not using a French press or you're using a drip filter that goes directly to your cup. But, you'd be better off with an actual pot since it already comes with a lid that can hold the filter in place.

There are models that come with reusable coffee filters while others require you to purchase disposable ones. If it's the latter, you can choose to buy organic coffee filters that are reusable. That way, it will be eco-friendly and cost-friendly.
