Schumer to Discuss AI Regulations

A closed-door forum to be held on September 13 will involved a discussion with Google CEO Sundar Pichai, former Google CEO Eric Schmidt, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, and X CEO Elon Musk. Aside from top tech CEOs the forum will also be joined by society groups and unions.

The session will be the first of the nine forums that will discuss the progression with the AI technology. The forums will be used the groundwork for AI regulation. Since the popularization of AI, legal concerns have been raised due to its potential threat to workers, national security, and copyright.

Why AI Regulations Should be Placed

Every day various AI tools are being launched by tech companies. While its services are indeed promising and helpful, one can still be in doubt not with the technology's capability but the security of its users.

For instance, many AI tools have been receiving backlash for violating intellectual property rights of artists and writers. Some companies have come forward to compromise. Meanwhile, there are still companies who are battling head-to-head with the issue.

Hence, an AI regulation and policy should be in place to safeguard the people and to avoid abuse with the technology. AI in the wrong hands and in the wrong agenda could be detrimental to the future of the world. Through the forum the Schumer hopes that the legislation will come up with a solid framework and policies to keep AI in place.
