Illustrators Weigh in 'Loki's' Promotional Poster

In an X post, illustrator Katria Raden expressed her disappointment and claimed that the promotional poster for "Loki" was created using AI-generated imagery. Raden also provided some proof such as the source of the AI-generated stock image found in the poster.

"It pains me that there seems to be more and more media I'd have otherwise enjoyed and been excited for... had they not utilized a tech built on the mass exploitation of others," Raden followed on the thread. The artist also expressed her concern about the artists living off licensing photos and illustrations on the stock sites. "I don't think replacing them with generated imagery via tech built on mass exploitation and wage theft is any more ethical than replacing Disney's own employees," she added. Another X user backed Raden's claim by purchasing the alleged stock image. The copyright showed that it was created only this year hence, ruling out the excuse of "it being old enough to not have been AI." X user thepokefluist also ran the image on various AI image checkers and ¾ of it claimed that it is AI-generated.

Disney's Backlash With AI

This is actually not the first time that Disney has been linked to using AI-generated images. Last June, the opening credits of Marvel's "Secret Invasion" was AI-generated.

In response, Method Studios released a statement claiming that no artists' jobs were lost or made obsolete due to the show's use of AI tools. This seems to be the new reality for many of the artists and illustrators as companies as big as Disney are now dabbling on the use of AI.
