5 Marvel Films to Watch Before Diving Into 'Loki' Series

Loki is one of the key antagonists and one of the first major villains to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Despite being a villain, many Marvel fans appreciated Loki's character which boosted his chance to get his own series.

Far from being the God of Mischief that we all know from the previous movies, the "Loki" series takes a different route into how the character will manage his multi-dimensional personality. At the same time, he must try to understand the complex multiverse timeline of the MCU.

Before you jump into the bandwagon of catching up with "Loki" series, here are some Marvel films that you should watch to have an in-depth understanding of our beloved villain:

Loki was first introduced as Thor's mischievous brother in the  2011 film "Thor." Marvel captured how Loki got his personality and why he has such aspirations. In "Thor: The Dark World" Loki and Thor's relationship got more complicated but somehow we can see a little bit of development in his character.

Lastly, "Thor: Ragnarok" shows how Loki and Thor teamed up in order to beat their sister Hela. Marvel also gives the fans a peek at Loki's raw emotions as he finally had some closure with her father, Odin.

'The Avengers' (2012)

The first Avenger film debuted Loki as the main antagonist for the Earth's mightiest heroes. "The Avengers" is considered the most important film in the MCU as it marked the first team-up of our beloved heroes.

What makes this film interesting for Loki is that it gives us a hint of how powerful he can be as a god. Aside from that, fans were also introduced to the Tesseract, a key component of the succeeding Avengers film. Most importantly, Loki often puts some references from this film in the series, so you better not skip this one.

'Avengers: Infinity War' (2018)

Who could forget the massive popularity of this film? Fans lined up at cinemas just to get a glimpse of one of the most iconic Avengers films of all time. Although Loki is finally at peace and is making things turn around by showing goodness, Thanos has other plans.

Loki was only seen in the opening sequence of the film and to a surprise, he was killed at the beginning of the film. Many fans were sad to see their favorite villain get killed but had hopes that maybe he would come back some other time.

'Avengers: Endgame' (2019)

The aftermath of the "Infinity War" remained fresh for the characters during the Endgame. Thor was gravely affected by his brother's death and was barely recognizable during this film. Since the Avengers managed to time travel to undo Thanos' doing, Loki had a second chance in life.

Unlike, the first movie he was able to escape using the tesseract and managed to create a new branch of reality for himself. Now don't be confused, Loki did actually die and the one we are looking out for now is the variant of Loki.

The new branch of reality for the variant Loki gave him a chance to embark on a new journey far from the chaos from the previous films, except the first Avengers film which he escaped thanks to the Avengers.

While it is tempting to just peek into the latest episodes, you must be patient. The introduction of Time Variance Authority (TVA) is something that you should carefully study in order to somehow grasp the idea of what is happening with the "Loki" series. Whether it's the variant Loki or sacred timeline Loki, we can all agree that he is a charming character capable of both mischief and goodness. Hopefully, he can save the multiverse, right?
