5 Movies That Fans Believe Ruined Its Franchise

Some fans are lucky enough that their favorite movies are extended into franchises. However, there are a select few that somehow produced one movie that stands out from the rest, and it's not because they were good films. Here are a couple of titles that ruined their franchise.

1. 'Star Wars: The Phantom Menace'

"The Phantom Menace" is the first film you should watch if you want to view all the franchise's content chronologically. For some, this was a happy setting as they could just get it over with and finish the most boring movie of the series, as most would describe it.

There are many reasons that fans hate the movie. Some say it's because the film did not show enough of Darth Maul, while others say there was too much screen time for Jar Jar Binks. Still, there are those who still think that "The Phantom Menace" does not deserve the hate it gets.

2. 'Eternals'

The movie is not exactly part of a movie series, but it is part of the Marvel franchise and is considered canon. Even with great visual effects and an amazing cast with Angelina Jolie, Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, and Salma Hayek, the film still fell short.

Fans argue that the plot was weak and that it can be disregarded without missing much with the whole picture of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It's also contradicting on itself as Eternals were supposed to stay out of human affairs, yet records of history show that they are recognized throughout time.

3. 'F9: The Fast Saga'

The "Fast & Furious" movie franchise has produced a lot of good titles. People are especially drawn to "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift." Although, the premise has taken a serious turn as more movies are released, so much so that it almost doesn't make sense anymore.

What made the franchise famous was the idea of a couple of outlaws racing the streets using modified cars. It then turned to the crew solving international issues with the government, dealing with programmable superviruses, and Tej Parker ending up driving a car to space.

4. 'Dark Phoenix'

The movie had most of the X-Men favorites like Professor X, Magneto, Cyclops, Mystique, and of course, Jean Grey, but it simply was not the kind of film that fans wanted to see in the franchise. It was also where a beloved character was killed off.

It is a waste too, especially since Jean Grey played by Sophie Turner had a good introduction in "X-Men: Apocalypse." We got to see how powerful she was if she decided to let go. That was shown in "Dark Phoenix," to be fair, but it wasn't as satisfying as people had hoped.

5. 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls'

We will always love Indie and his adventures, but many fans from the franchise seem to think that the fourth movie didn't live up to the hype of the series. People were excited enough since Harrison Ford was coming back, but they were disappointed when the movie was finally released.

Even Cate Blanchett was part of the cast. She was well-known for being a good actress, and yet her performance in the movie was criticized. It was difficult to wrap your head around the story with everything that was going on, which may be why many thought that the movie sucked.
