Netflix’s Upcoming ‘The Witcher’ Animated Film Will Feature Geralt’s Video Game Voice Actor

Every single fan of Netflix's "The Witcher" live-action series can tell you that they are still disappointed about Henry Cavill leaving the show. After all, he was the perfect actor for it. The streaming service might just be able to redeem itself with the new animated film based on the same lore.

'The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep'

The film franchise based on the book series has a mix of good and bad content. The live-action, despite a few setbacks due to straying from the source material, still has a lot of fans all over the world. "The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf" was also well-received by viewers.

Fans had high hopes for "The Witcher: Blood Origin," but it was a major flop even though it had actors such as Michell Yeoh and a short appearance from Joey Batey, who plays Jaskier. It went further downhill once news broke that Cavill was leaving the show for good.

With the original voice of the video game Geralt, Netflix might just get the chance to recapture the hearts of its fans with its new animated film. It was among the announced upcoming content during Geeked Week 2023.

Voice actor Doug Cockle said that he is "super excited to announce my return to the world of The Witcher voicing Geralt of Rivia once again," and that he is "thrilled to be able to share this next chapter of the White Wolf's journey with fans of the Witcher universe."

"Witcher: Sirens of the Deep" will be about Geralt investigating a series of attacks in a seaside village, which will put him in the middle of a centuries-old conflict between humans and merpeople, according to Netflix's blog post.

It's not just some random story cooked up by Netflix if you're worried about that. "Sirens of the Deep" is based on the short story "A Little Sacrifice," by Andrzej Sapkowski, the author of "The Witcher" book series. He will also serve as the animated movie's creative consultant.

Mike Ostrowski and Rae Benjamin are the writers of the film, the same ones who are behind "The Witcher" series as well. It is also produced by showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich. Yes, that may be a source of concern for some viewers considering how the series turned out.

Fret not. "The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep" will be directed by the storyboard artist on "The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf," Kang Hei Hochul, and will be created by Studio MIR, which was behind the mentioned "Witcher" animation about Vesemir and "The Legend of Korra."
