Google Shopping Powered by Search Generative Experience

Google Shopping will be debuting three new features to help customers during the holiday shopping rush. First, it can suggest gifts based on the interests provided on the search. This is helpful for people who have no clue what to buy at all.

Second, it can generate a photorealistic image of an item. Google Shopping now offers up to 40 photos of men and women, with various shapes, sizes, and backgrounds that will assist you in a virtual clothing try-on experience.

Users can start utilizing these new features by enabling the Search Generative Experience (SGE) in Search Labs. "As we approach the busiest shopping weeks of the year, technology - especially generative AI - is making it much easier to find gifts for others (and ourselves), director of product, consumer shopping, Julie Black shared.

How to Use SGE for Online Shopping

After enabling the feature, the user can start typing prompts such as "gifts for dancers"  and it will automatically generate gift suggestions for dancers with a brief explanation for every item. Google will also give some alternative gifts if the user does not like the top answers.

While the virtual try-on is not yet widely available, soon customers will be able to look for apparel and have the option to generate a photorealistic image that matches your prompt. Google will also let the customers make adjustments just by typing in the text box.

The SGE tool is now available in the Google app both for Android and iOS. It also rolled out on Chrome desktop today. Meanwhile, the virtual try-on will be available in the U.S. starting in December.
