Netflix's 'Scott Pilgrim Takes Off' Season 2 Still Uncertain, Creators Say

Despite great reception, Netflix's "Scott Pilgrim Takes Off" having a second season would be considered a "miracle," its creator thinks.

"Scott Pilgrim" creator Bryan Lee O'Malley said in an interview with Rolling Stones that the animated series is "self-contained for now."

O'Malley said he and executive producer Edgar Wright put all their ideas in the first season that a second one will need "about 50 different miracles simultaneously" to happen.

The comic creator, however, said the hope of a sequel is not completely out of the window.

The post-credit scene on the show's final episode suggests the future development of the series. It's just that the team does not have "official ideas" for the next steps.

O'Malley was the creator of the original "Scott Pilgrim" comics he started in 2004, while Wright was the director for its live adaptation, "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World," released in 2010.

Changes from the Original Version

Spoiler Alert: "Scott Pilgrim Takes Off" is not a direct reboot of the beloved series, but rather a retelling of the original storyline.

O'Malley said the changes in the series were a creative decision he, Wright, and show creator BenDavid Grabinski chose.

For O'Malley, he does not wish to do "the exact same thing I did when I was 25."

These changes can be seen as the series focuses more on the notorious "evil exes" than the titular character, Scott Pilgrim, and his exploits alone.

The theatrical version was a box office bomb, grossing only $47.7 million against its production budget of up to $90 million.

It was only in recent years that the film earned international recognition from both old and new fans alike. The movie currently sits at 82% in Rotten Tomatoes.

How to Watch the New 'Scott Pilgrim' Show

While it is recommended to watch the film adaptation or read it in the original comic version, people can hop in into "Scott Pilgrim Takes Off" as the starter.

Both the "Scott Pilgrim Takes Off" and "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World" are available on Netflix.

The comic releases can be bought in Amazon's Comixology and Kindle web store.
