Apple iPad Lineup Faces Confusion

Initially, iPads were launched in two versions, making it easy for customers to decide which was appropriate for their needs. However, Apple added more options to give more options to their customers with varying price ranges and specs.

Currently, there is an iPad Pro, Air, standard with different generations, and mini versions. They are all available at the Apple stores. Despite Apple's ambition to appeal to the market, the lineup inevitably got cluttered and confusing.

The current lineup made it harder to choose which iPad is the best as it featured different screen sizes with little to no differences in some of its specs. The price difference between variations is also significant.

There are also a bunch of accessories that offer little compatibility between iPad variations and generations, making it less sustainable for users who own multiple versions.

Apple Aims to Fix Lineup by 2024

Fortunately, Apple is already on its way to fixing its lineup in 2024. According to the report, the company will reduce the confusion between the iPad Pro and Air. Previously, there were reports that the Pro is up for major upgrades such as the M3 chip, OLED screen, and revamped Magic Keyboard.

Meanwhile, the Air will come in 10.9-inch and 12.9-inch displays while the Pro will have 11 and 13-inch configurations, giving only a small difference in screen size. However, the Air will be a lower-end version of the Pro but has more enhanced features than the standard iPad. The mini will also get a faster processor at a later date.

Once the 11th generation comes out, the ninth generation will be phased out and will ultimately allow the company to gradually remove its older Apple Pencils to clear the iPad accessory lineup.
