Netflix’s ‘Blue Eye Samurai’ Season 2 Has Been Confirmed

Netflix may have a reputation for canceling shows we like and dropping the ball on certain titles, but it's hard to deny that it has also created notable TV shows. One of those titles would be the well-received "Blue Eye Samurai," and it will be returning for the second season.

'Blue Eye Samurai' Season 2 Confirmed

The show was released back on November 3rd. Unsurprisingly, it has been renewed for a new season given that it was well-received by its viewers. The show focuses on several narratives, but the main character is none other than the titular samurai.

Mizu, the protagonist, is a biracial warrior who lived in the Edo period of Japan. It did not bode well for her that the country did not welcome foreigners at the time, even the children of their own citizens with the visitors.

As a result of the era's racism, Mizu was harassed and abused even as a child, which sparked her path to vengeance to hunt down all four of the white men in Japan. The compelling story shows us the strength and perseverance of a samurai with a sole mission.

Co-creators Amber Noizumi and Michael Green said in a statement that Mizu "has a lot more blood to spill," as reported by The Verge, meaning that we'll be seeing an action-packed season 2, maybe even more so than the first season.

They added that when they started the project, they made a commitment to take the "very personal story set in Edo-period Japan and bring it to life in the most authentic and beautiful way possible." Unfortunately, there's not much news other than the confirmation of season 2.

The series shows just how capable Netflix is of producing good animated shows. One could even say that "Blue Eye Samurai" is at the same level of creativity and brilliance as "Arcane," both using stylized art for the animation.

The pair thanked their entire team and all the viewers from all over the world who have shown a passion for Mizu and her "path of revenge." Our only hope is that Mizu will be successful with her endeavors so that we may get more seasons.

(Spoilers Ahead)

The show's last episode had an open ending, which already hinted at a second season for its viewers. After a long and harrowing journey for Mizu (voiced by Maya Erskine), she finally got to the second white man she set out to kill, Abijah Fowler.

He was the second foreigner the samurai got to, meaning that there were two more on her list, which could lead to two more seasons ahead of us. Fowler mentioned that the other two would be much harder to find, which could lead to a more difficult path for Mizu.

With Fowler inches away from death at the hands of Mizu, he reveals that she will need his help to find the two other white men who are more secluded than he is. This leads to the protagonist taking Fowler with her to a ship on their way to London.

Another interesting character, Akemi (voiced by Brenda Song) managed to gain power by marrying one of the sons of Japan's Shogun, which is the most powerful position in feudal Japan. It will be exciting what she aims to do with her newfound place in the most powerful family.
