Even Pedro Pascal Doesn’t Know What Will Happen in ‘The Last of Us’ Season 2 Yet

Based on the number of awards that the show has won along with the positive reviews given by its fans, it's safe to say that "The Last of Us" was a success. We are patiently waiting for season two, but some are understandably eager to know if the showrunners would follow the source material.

We Can Only Guess the Plot

Those who have played the game already know what's ahead for season two. Some have probably refreshed their memories after playing The Last of Us Part II Remastered. Given that they made changes in the first season, then maybe they'll do the same with the sequel.

However, we still can't know for sure. Even the actor playing one of the protagonists, Pedro Pascal, has no clue how the showrunners intend to use the source material, or how accurate they will be when it comes to the second game's events.

Pascal expressed that he thinks they are "always going to find ways to build on the incredible source material that they have, and surprise us with how they can use that material in a different format, like a television show, as reported by Gizmodo.

Most would agree that that is true. For instance, Naughty Dog managed to create a different, more heartwarming story for Bill and Frank, as opposed to the game where Bill was aggrieved towards Frank for leaving him, and Frank ended up taking his life.

When asked if "The Last of Us" season two will follow the game, Pascal revealed that he doesn't have all the information yet and that he didn't want to spoil it for anybody. We already know that showrunners take creative liberties, so we may be in for a surprise still.

What Can We Expect Based on the Game (Spoilers)

Players who have experienced the game sequel can probably still remember how they felt when the character they played in the first game, Joel, was killed off brutally. Some were even discouraged from continuing after the tragic event.

The thing is, writers are unlikely to deviate from that event, especially since it sets the foundation of the sequel's story. Ellie, who despite resenting Joel after keeping the truth from her and taking away her choice, has become somewhat of a daughter to him.

After he was clubbed to death by Abby as Ellie watched, she promised that she would hunt down all those who were involved in the act. It was at that moment where the story of revenge had begun for Ellie, which was the premise of The Last of Us Part 2.

Perhaps the only thing that the writers can do is delay the death scene just for a little bit, but it will likely happen either way. It's already easy to imagine what the show would look like, especially since the cast for the important characters for season two has already been revealed.

Kaitlyn Dever will take on the role of Abby, who was the deuteragonist in the sequel, along with Isabela Merced for Dina, who will be Ellie's love interest. Of course, Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal will reprise their roles as Ellie and Joel.
