Apple’s AI Image Tool Lets You Edit Photos Through Text Prompts

As Samsung released the Galaxy AI which comes with several features for its apps, Apple researchers also created an AI image tool that will make it easier for you to edit your photos. All you have to do is describe the changes you want and you're good to go.

Apple's AI Image Editing Tool

The photos we take don't always come out perfect, and we sometimes resort to editing them just to remove imperfections. While this is a simple enough task for some, others might not have the needed level of skill to apply convincing edits.

That's where AI editing comes along, and Apple just created a tool that lets you instruct the AI regarding the changes you want to make, eliminating the need for third-party editing software. Like AI image generators, all you need to do is apply changes using text prompts.

Apple is using the MGIE model, which is short for MLLM-Guided Image Editing. Through simple commands, you can resize, flip, and add filters to photos, as well as apply more complex modifications like removing unwanted elements, as per The Verge.

You can select certain objects in the photo and single them out for modifications like adjusting the brightness or changing its shape. It's even smart enough to add or remove elements in a photo if you enter the right prompt.

For instance, telling it to make a photo of a pizza look healthier will result in it adding vegetable toppings. It can detect the screen of the photo of a computer and you can ask it to replace the content on the screen.

MGIE's editing capabilities are made possible by using two multimodal language model functions, one of which is learning how to interpret the prompts entered by the user, with the second having the AI model "imagine" what the image would look like based on the user;s description.

This could be part of Apple's attempt to add more AI features to its devices, as Apple CEO Tim Cook said the company was planning for this year. The MGIE is even available through GitHub for downloads.

Samsung AI Editing Tool

As Apple's biggest competitor, Samsung also has something that can match Apple's new AI image editing functions. With the Galaxy AI, you can edit photos with the help of artificial intelligence as well.

Through AI-powered editing, smartphones with the Galaxy AI feature can edit photos by resizing or retouching them. You can rotate a photo without having to sacrifice corners as the AI will automatically fill in the missing spaces with the elements from the background.

You can also select an object from the photo and move it around or resize it without having a hole in the image, as the AI will also fill the missing space where the object was removed, allowing you to freely make adjustments to your liking.

The Galaxy AI also makes it possible for you to take clear pictures even if you shoot them from a distance. With the AI Zoom, the image will retain its vivid details, unlike standard camera functions that tend to blur the photo.
