Higher-end, metallic Galaxy S5 launching in May under Galaxy F moniker?

The Samsung Galaxy S5 may be official, but the rumor mill doesn't stop here. A new report claims that a metal version of the smartphone is on its way.

Samsung took the wraps off its latest Galaxy S5 flagship smartphone earlier this week at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014 in Barcelona. The Galaxy S5 was among the most highly-anticipated devices of this year, but many were disappointed to see the new flagship with the same old plastic design.

Earlier rumors suggested that a metallic version of the Galaxy S5 would launch alongside the standard model, but Samsung made no mention of the rumored 'Prime' model during the unveiling. Rumors had also claimed that the premium variant of the Galaxy S5 would boast a QHD display and more powerful hardware overall. That was not the case, however, as Samsung unveiled just one model of the Galaxy S5.

The rumor mill keeps churning nonetheless, and a recent report out of Korea claims that the premium version of the Galaxy S5 is still in the cards. The report cites Samsung executives who were in closed-room meetings at the MWC, and the purported device will reportedly be the first of a new line of high-end devices to launch under the Galaxy F brand.

"Dubbed Project F, the all-metallic version of the Galaxy S5 is said to feature premium materials and better hardware to the standard Galaxy S5. It might even launch with the rumoured 64-bit Exynos Infinity SoC that was set to debut at the MWC," notes SamMobile, which was the first to report on the latest news out of Korea.

The premium version of the Galaxy S5 is also rumored to come with optical image stabilization (OIS), a feature that is currently in high demand but is missing from the standard Galaxy S5 unveiled a few days ago. Recent reports have also claimed that Samsung would offer the new Galaxy S5 at a lower price point than the Galaxy S4's price at launch.

If such rumors prove to be true, this lower price point could further bolster the possibility of a higher-end version launching later on, with a higher price tag. The premium Galaxy S5 is said to launch in May, but nothing is confirmed at this point. Everything regarding this purported higher-end Galaxy S5 model is based purely on speculation at this point, so it is advisable to take this news with a grain of salt.
