Threads Rolls Out Twitter-Like 'Today's Topics' Trends for US Users

Threads has finally released its Twitter-like trending searches feature, "Today's Topics," for users in the US.

After months of hinting, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced on Threads that the feature is now available on the search page and in the "For You" feed.

Zuckerberg said the feature is still being tested in the US but will soon roll out in more countries and languages "once we get it tuned up."

 

According to Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri, the "Today's Topics" will utilize Meta's AI algorithm to search for relevant topics based on the discussions the users usually engaged with.

Trending topics, however, will not include an exact number of how many posts are related to the topic as it does with X's (formerly Twitter) "Trending Topics."

Threads Under Fire for Censoring Posts

While the feature has been a longtime request for many users in the past, the release of the feature has been met with backlash from users.

Political topics, especially about international conflicts and elections, have been the most common discussion on Meta platforms, especially with the upcoming 2024 Elections.

Meta Censoring Political Accounts, Posts

Many big political accounts, many criticizing the government, have noticed that their contents and posts have been blocked out from being viewed by more people.

Meta has already been criticized for censoring pro-Palestine posts as supposed violations of its anti-hate speech policies.

It does not help quell people's scrutiny after reports indicate that Meta is also considering reducing visibility for posts with the word "Zionists."

The term is more commonly used for users and posts criticizing pro-Israel accounts related to the ongoing bombing in Gaza.

It is uncertain if a similar type of content censorship will happen on Threads.
