Apple Music Tests Import Feature That Transfers Playlists from Spotify, Other Platforms

Apple Music is reportedly beta-testing the integration of SongShift which will allow users to transfer their playlists from other streaming platforms like Spotify.

SongShift is a third-party service that enables the transfer of music libraries and playlists between different music streaming platforms.

Apple Music With SongShift

Some Reddit users spotted a new prompt in Apple Music for Android that asks users if they want to "add saved music and playlists you made in other music services to your Apple Music library." In addition, there is also an option to enable the feature through the app's settings on Android.

However, some users said that it could be an A/B testing in the latest beta version of Apple Music on Android since some do not have the same option to try it. In addition, some users shared that despite having the option to try it, the feature does not proceed to transfer playlists.

"I sadly can't get past this screen, it keeps loading forever. If I open the URL in a web browser it'll just 403 me," the user posted.

Transferring of Playlists from Spotify to Apple Music

For Android users, SongShift might be unfamiliar but the app has been available for iPhone users for years already. It seems that Apple is making moves to integrate the app into Apple Music for Android, allowing users to switch from Spotify and other services to Apple Music.

For now, there is no news if Apple also has plans to bring SongShift integration to Apple Music on iPhone. Currently, both apps work separately for iPhone users. However, it is usual for the Android version and iPhone version to have the same features.

Meanwhile, Apple is about to face over $500 million fine under the European Union for stifling competition on Apple Music for iPhones. The investigation was initiated after Spotify complained about Apple's anticompetitive practices against other music streaming companies.
