Facebook Messenger Now Allows You to Send HD Photos

It wasn't always a good idea to send a photo through Messenger if you wanted a clear photo, especially if you know that your internet connection is not that strong. That's about to change with the new update that's coming to the app.

HD Photos in Messenger

Anyone who has used Messenger knows it's not a guarantee that the photo you sent will be uploaded as an HD image, which is why some users resort to using other messaging apps or send the photo through email to make sure it's clear and crisp.

With the latest update, users won't have to switch to other apps to send and receive 4K images. There is now a toggle to enable sending HD photos, which can be found in the top-right corner of the selection section when users tap on the image icon that opens their gallery of photos.

Messenger says that uploading and sending HD photos might take a little longer. A user can send more than one HD photo at once, as mentioned in Meta's blog post, even having the option to create an album for certain occasions.

To create a new album in a group chat, select multiple photos from the chat composer, or the selection of images that comes up when you tap on the image icon. Then, tap "Create album." Users can add to an existing album by simply selecting "Add."

To better label what the set of images is about, the new feature also allows you to name the album by selecting it, tapping on the three-dot menu, and selecting "Edit Name." The albums can then be found in the Media section of Messenger.

While the album creation feature is yet to be released in the coming weeks, the HD option is already available for use. Users will know if the photo is in HD since there will be a small indication on the top-right corner of the image.

Other New Features

Messenger is not only improving the quality of images sent through the app. User are now allowed to send files up to 100 MB as well, which was previously limited to only 25 MB. This allows users to send short HD videos.

Through chat, you can tap the plus icon or the button beside the camera icon and select a file that does not exceed the 100 MB limit. All major file types are supported by the feature such as images, videos, and documents like Word, PDF, and Excel.

The app is adding an easier way to connect as well by creating unique QR codes and links for each account. Users can send their Messenger QR codes to eliminate the need to search for someone using names or phone numbers.

To share your own link, go to Settings, and tap the QR code icon at the top. That code can immediately be scanned using someone else's device, or you can share the link by tapping on Share, which appears when you open your QR code.
