Nokia Lumia 930 (global Lumia Icon) now available unlocked in the U.S.

The Nokia Lumia 930, i.e. the global version of the Verizon-bound Lumia Icon, is now available for purchase unlocked in the U.S.

This means that U.S. customers who want this Windows Phone powerhouse can now get it even if Verizon Wireless is not their carrier of choice.

The Nokia Lumia Icon has drawn plenty of interest due to its high-end specs and features, but its exclusivity to Verizon has limited its initial success. Nokia then decided to launch a global version of the Verizon-bound smartphone, launching the Lumia 930 variant.

So far the Nokia Lumia 930 has been available in other parts of the world, while the U.S. had to settle for the Lumia Icon Verizon exclusive. This is no longer the case, as an online retailer has started finally selling the unlocked Nokia Lumia Icon in the U.S. The device is available at a $699.99 price point and comes with no carrier ties.

Nokia reportedly has no plans to officially sell the Lumia 930 in the U.S. due to its arrangement with Verizon, but Expansys is now offering the unlocked device through its U.S. arm. The retailer currently has the Lumia 930 in stock, offering the device in four color options: black, green, white, and orange.

When it comes to specifications, the Lumia 930 is virtually identical to the Verizon Lumia Icon. The big difference, however, is on the software side. While the Lumia Icon launched back in February with Windows Phone 8 on board, the Lumia 930 arrived in April and boasts the very latest Windows Phone 8.1 OS.

As for the hardware specs, the Nokia Lumia 930 sports a 5-inch ClearBlack OLED display with a full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.2GHz, 2GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal storage capacity. The smartphone doesn't have a microSD slot for additional memory, so 32GB is all you get. Other specs include a 20-megapixel rear camera with PureView technology, a 1.2-megapixel front shooter, and a 2,420 mAh battery. Connectivity options consist of 4G LTE, Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth 4.0, and NFC.

U.S. customers interested in purchasing the unlocked Nokia Lumia 930 can now head over to Expansys at this link and place their order. The retailer notes that "stock usually ships in 4 days."
