Xiaomi Mi 3 sets new record: 15,000 units sold in just 2 seconds

Xiaomi is on a roll, as the company has just marked another amazing achievement: selling 15,000 Mi 3 smartphones in just two seconds in India.

The company is commonly referred to as "China's Apple" and offers high-end devices for mid-range price tags. Xiaomi is not very well-known yet in the West, but it enjoys some great popularity in its home country, as well as in India.

Just recently news broke out that Xiaomi became the No.1 smartphone maker in its home country of China, dethroning Samsung, Apple, and other notable players in the top 10 best-selling smartphone brands. Samsung had held the top position for two years, but Xiaomi dethroned it in the second quarter.

The string of impressive achievements continues for Xiaomi, as the company just announced on its Facebook profile that it sold 15,000 Xiaomi Mi 3 smartphones in India in under two seconds. Before this whopping sale, Xiaomi had sold 20,000 Mi 3 units in the country in two batches - the first series sold out in 38 minutes and 50 seconds back on July 22, while the second batch sold 10,000 units in just five seconds last week.

"THANK YOU, Mi fans! Our Mi 3 was out of stock in just 2 seconds on flipkart.com! The next round of registration starts at 6 p.m. today," Xiaomi India announced on Facebook on Tuesday, Aug. 5.

The Xiaomi Mi 3 is available in the country for INR 13,999 ($230), which makes it easy to understand why it's so popular. The handset offers high-end specifications similar to the Nexus 5, but comes at less than half the price, which makes it the best value for money smartphone customers can currently buy in India. More than 100,000 eager shoppers have registered their interest for this Xiaomi Mi 3 sale, and the available stock vanished in no time.

At this rate, Xiaomi is rapidly growing in popularity and shaping up as a tough player in an increasingly competitive smartphone market. If the company's devices become more readily available globally, Xiaomi is surely headed for great things. So far, the company has sold most of its devices in China, but its rapid growth may prompt wider availability for Xiaomi powerhouses.
