HP 10 Plus tablet hits Amazon: Full HD display, quad-core, 2GB of RAM, for $279

A new HP 10 Plus tablet has popped up on Amazon's website, complete with spec details and a price tag, although HP made no official announcement.

HP did not issue any press release to formally announce this new HP 10 Plus tablet, nor did it hold any event to take the wraps off the new slate. Nevertheless, the new HP 10 Plus has gone up on sale from Amazon.

According to the listing in question, the new HP 10 Plus comes with a 10.1-inch full HD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and packs an Allwinner A31 Cortex-A7 quad-core processor under the hood, clocked at 1GHz and paired with 2GB of RAM.

Other specs include 16GB of internal storage capacity, a 5-megapixel rear camera, a 2-megapixel front shooter, one USB 2.0 port, an average battery life of roughly 10 hours, and Android 4.2 as the operating system. Oddly enough, the HP 10 Plus seems to come with Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, whereas most recent tablets - even the low-cost ones - now come with Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac. It remains unclear why HP chose this Wi-Fi standard for its 10 Plus tablet, but the decision could be related to an effort to keep the costs down with this slate.

"Do more of what you want with the affordable, quad-core powered HP 10 Plus 2201 Tablet," reads the product description on Amazon. "With a 10.1-inch diagonal Full HD display, this tablet is designed for entertainment. Watch movies, play games, surf the Web and share photos easily. HP Connected Drive lets you access files on the cloud from any connected PC, phone or tablet. Sync photos across your mobile devices using HP Connected Photo. Plus, combine your music collection with new discoveries using HP Connected Music."

The new HP 10 Plus comes with a $279.00 price tag from Amazon, which is lower than the previously rumored price of $320. Considering that the tablet offers a full HD display, quad-core processing power and 2GB of RAM, $279 is a pretty good price point, which should make it quite appealing to prospective buyers looking for an affordable slate. At that price, the HP 10 Plus should offer a decent performance, but don't expect anything too spectacular.
