AT&T Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 launching on Oct. 24 for $150 on-contract

The Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 mid-range Android phablet is ready to hit U.S. availability later this week, launching on Oct. 24 through AT&T.

Not too long ago, the Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 made its debut in overseas markets, arriving as a mid-range phablet offering with promising specifications, but nothing too high-end.

AT&T has now announced that it will be launching the Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 in the U.S., adding the device to its lineup on Friday, Oct. 24. The carrier will offer several pricing options for the phablet.

The AT&T Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 will cost $150 when agreeing to sign a two-year service agreement, $19.80 per month with AT&T Next 18, $23.75 per month with Next 12, and $475 contract-free. The price is quite hefty for the device's specifications, however, so it remains to be seen just how successful the Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 will be.

As a reminder, the new Galaxy Mega 2 phablet comes with a 6-inch display with 720p HD resolution and packs a 1.2GHz quad-core processor under the hood, paired with 1.5GB of RAM. Other specs include 16GB of internal storage capacity, microSD card support for additional memory, an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, a 2.1-megapixel front shooter, and a 2,800 mAh battery.

"The Galaxy Mega 2 is designed for those who want to get the most out of their large-screen smartphone, featuring a 6-inch High Definition screen with a smaller overall 'just-right' size and one-handed operation mode that puts most everything within easier reach," AT&T boasts in its announcement.

In terms of software, the device runs Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box and Samsung's own TouchWiz UX on top. Samsung's software brings popular features and different modes such as one-handed, private, dual window, and ultra power saving mode.

With a price tag that's pretty close to that of high-end flagships, however, the mid-range Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 may not see the success the company is likely hoping for, but that remains to be seen.
