Google to launch Huawei Nexus smartphone in addition to LG-made one?

Google will reportedly launch two new Nexus smartphones this year, one made in collaboration with LG and the other one with Huawei.

Nexus smartphones have proved to be quite popular among smartphone users, as they come with good specifications, decent price tags, and the much-touted Nexus experience that guarantees timely updates as soon as a new version of Android comes out. The latest Nexus 6 took things to the next level by boasting higher-end specifications (and a higher price tag), and it will be interesting to see what Google has planned for the next iteration.

Rumors of a next-generation Nexus smartphone from LG have been making rounds for quite some time now, but a new report now claims that it will not be the only one. Instead, Google has reportedly decided to team up with both LG and Huawei to launch two different Nexus handsets.

A new report from GizmoChina, citing Chinese analyst Piu Jiutang, claims that the purported Huawei Nexus smartphone will feature a 5.7-inch OLED display made by Samsung, boasting a QHD (2K) resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. Under the hood, the handset will reportedly pack a 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor instead of a chipset made by Huawei itself. GizmoChina believes that the choice of processor likely came from Google, which is why the handset would come with a Snapdragon 810 on board. The analyst further said that the 2K display was likely Google's choice as well, especially since a Huawei executive previously said that a 2K display didn't really make sense on a compact smartphone, as full HD would be enough to deliver sharp visuals for the naked eye.

The report makes no mention of RAM, cameras, battery, or other specifications this purported Huawei Nexus 9 may bring to the table, but more details are expected to surface shortly.

At the same time, it all remains unconfirmed at this point. Google has not confirmed any plans to launch new Nexus smartphones in collaboration with LG, Huawei, or both, so it's all still in the rumor state at this point.

Until a formal announcement from Google, it's highly advisable to take all such leaks and reports with a hefty grain of salt. We'll make sure to keep you up to date as soon as more information comes to light, so stay tuned.
