Samsung Plus program page confirms Galaxy S6 Active existence

The official page for the Samsung Plus insurance program confirms the existence of the much-rumored Galaxy S6 Active, which is expected to launch as the rugged version of the flagship.

Rumors of a Samsung Galaxy S6 Active have been intensifying as of late, hinting at an imminent debut, and now Samsung has somewhat confirmed the existence of the handset.

Samsung has been offering a rugged version of its flagship for a couple of years now, ever since it launched the Galaxy S4 Active. The company followed up with a Galaxy S5 Active last year, and in 2015 it is widely expected to unveil a Galaxy S6 Active soon.

The tougher version of the Galaxy S6 flagship has already leaked online in a couple of images, and some reports also revealed some purported specifications, but Samsung made no official announcement so far. Leaving speculation aside, however, the Samsung Plus program page now confirms the existence of the Galaxy S6 Active, albeit it offers no info on specs or design.

The page in question clearly lists the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active for the Samsung Plus insurance program (see image above), which means that the smartphone is officially in the cards and should debut soon enough.

The listing also shows the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active with a launch date of April 10, alongside the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge models, but the rugged handset has not made it to market just yet. Samsung may have initially planned to launch all handsets at once, and for some reason it ultimately decided to delay the release of the Galaxy S6 Active. The page also notes that the launch dates listed there are the earliest possible dates based on global release, but they are not set in stone.

Nevertheless, this listing is pretty much the closest to a confirmation that the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active is indeed real.

When it comes to specs, rumors and leaks so far have revealed that the rugged Galaxy S6 Active will boast the same 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display with a 2560 x 1440 resolution as the flagship, and pack an Exynos 7420 processor under the hood. Other rumored specs include 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage capacity, a 16-megapixel rear camera, and a 5-megapixel front shooter. It remains unclear whether this handset will come with microSD support, considering that the flagship Galaxy S6 doesn't allow for expandable memory.
