Canon Announces Speedlite Flash And Macro Lens

Canon has announced the EF-M 28mm f/3.5 Macro IS STM lens and Speedlite 600EX II-RT flash. The EF-M 28mm f/3.5 offers a unique new feature, while the 600EX II-RT improves upon Canon's flagship Speedlite with new features including faster recycling times.

The EF-M 28mm f/3.5 Macro IS STM is the first EOS M camera system's macro lens. According to Gizmag, to help freeze close-up objects, in front of the macro lens are integrated two Macro Lite flash units. They give the effect of a ring flash by curving around the front element of the lens.

The miniature Macro Lite electronic flash units help remove darkness and shadow from subjects. Users can also choose whether both units are illuminated individually or together and adjust brightness.

The new Canon Macro lens is also the first autofocus lens capable of focusing from infinity to 1.2X magnification in Super Macro mode and to life-size (1X) in normal shooting.

Among the other features included are a lead screw-type STM stepping motor for smooth and quiet focusing, the Hybrid IS system to reduce camera shake and an angle of view similar to a 45 mm standard lens (35 mm equivalent). Weighing in at just 4.58 oz (130 g), in other words, first, the EF-M 28mm f/3.5 Macro IS STM is also the lightest macro lens for mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras.

According to Fstoppers, Canon also announced the Speedlite 600EX-RT. The Speedlite comes with a powerful and capable auto-focus (AF) assist beam that can be of great help in low-light situations. The new Speedlite 600EX II-RT flash comes with wireless technology and uses cheap AA batteries.

Among the other new features that are included are a new optional CP-E4N battery pack that provides continuous flash performance speed improvement of 1.1-1.5X or up to 2.0X and flash head coverage of 20-200 mm at ISO 100. The radio communication range is up to 98.4 ft (30 m) with 15 individual Speedlites and up to five groups.

The Speedlite 600EX-RT provides 180° rotational range in both directions and a tilt range of -7 to 90°. High-speed first and second curtain syncs, stroboscopic mode and dust and water-resistant sealing are among its other features.
