Smartwatches Are Upgraded But Are Not Quick Enough

Android and Apple smartwatches are becoming better as their makers introduce improvements and new features. But these are just small steps in a long journey to attract consumers and convince them of the fact that they would need a computer on their wrist.

For instance, Android Wear watches soon will allow users track their gym workouts such as weight training. Apple's smartwatch promises a one-button 911 call and faster app launching.

Both systems will allow users swipe-write texts with their finger. All there are interesting features, however is nothing there yet likely to turn a smartwatch into that kind of day-to-day necessity a smartphone has already become.

Current smartwatch enthusiasts look forward to free software updates that Google and Apple are expect to push out in the coming months. According to Business Insider, this week Apple has announced at its annual WWDC conference that its next watchOS update
will include an "SOS" function. The feature will allow users to hold down the Apple Watch's side button in order to call 911 or other emergency service needed.

The Apple Watch will also become faster with the upcoming watchOS 3 software. The favorite apps will launch automatically and load data in the background. This could address a major frustration today, once users will no longer have to wait several seconds for the app to start up.

The Apple Watch currently offers favorite apps through Glance. However, this works only from the watch face and it gives you limited information. Apple has announces a replacement for the Glance called Dock. With a press of the side button, this new feature will get you full apps from any screen.

According to the website app.com, there will be also other improvements. Message replies will be possible without first hitting "reply" and swiping up will soon get you frequently used settings. With a new app called Scribble, users will be able to write characters on the screen one at a time with their finger. The watch will then translate the characters into computerized text. However, the preconfigured replies and the current options for voice will still be available.
