MacBook Air News & Update: Apple To Launch MacBook 2016 Air With USB Type-C Port?

Tech experts speculate that Apple might soon launch an updated MacBook Air 2016 featuring support for USB-C.

The online publication iPhoneHacks reports that since Apple did not announce any update of its MacBook Air line, many tech analysts have speculated that the company will discontinue this year its line of ultra light laptops. However, there are rumors now suggesting that the high-tech company might actually launch a 2016 model of its ultra light MacBook Air and one of the upcoming changes could be the charging port.

One of the publications supporting the possibility of a MacBook Air 2016 is DigiTimes. The publication reports that Apple's MacBook Air will adopt USB Type-C ports. The rumor is based on inside information on upcoming supply chain maneuverings.

When it comes to including the USB Type-C port in the portable's design, Apple's MacBook Air could be one more product the company is focusing on. Up to date, Apple has already introduced USB-C support to the 12-inch MacBook.

Tech analysts expect that Apple will also adopt the Type C USB port in a redesigned upcoming MacBook Pro 2016. But the same change can also come to the charging port implemented in an updated model of MacBook Air.

While Hewllet-Packard and Asustek are upgrading one of their laptops' USB port to the USB-C, Acer, Lenovo and Dell are still evaluating the option. Rumors suggest that Apple also decided to adopt the Type-C USB port for its 2016 MacBook Air.

According to AppleInsider, the company did not upgrade the MacBook Air lineup for quite some time. It's been over a year since the MacBook Air has seen a major refresh. The high-tech company only upgraded early this year the RAM to 8 GB for the 13-inch MacBook Air models.

In June it was rumored that Apple will introduce a minor upgrade to the MacBook Air lineup, but the rumors did not proved to be true.

At the moment, there is no official Apple declaration on the MacBook Air 2016 upgrade. But the new supply chain rumor that suggests Apple will implement USB Type-C ports to the MacBook Air is pretty credible.
