Helldivers 2 Update: Illuminate Faction Returns with New Enemies and Weapon Customization

The Illuminate reemerge with formidable forces, including the Fleshmob and Stingray units, as Super Earth equips Helldivers with advanced weapon customization tools.

The Illuminate monsters are back for more in a new Helldivers 2 update, "Galactic Emergency."

Announced Tuesday on PlayStation Blog, the new update brings a stronger threat from Illuminate with new terrors to fight across Super Earth.

"But perhaps most terrifying are the reports of a failed Illuminate experiment called the Fleshmob: a Frankenstein's monster of Voteless parts turned into a brute battlefield force that the Helldivers must work hard to destroy," wrote Katherine Baskin, Social Media and Community Manager, Arrowhead Game Studios in the post.

To combat this returned threat, Helldivers 2 players will get a new weapon customization feature for most of the primary weapons, with higher levels (that unlock better attachments) earned by completing missions.

In addition, the update brings new patterns for the fast reconnaissance vehicles (FRV) so you can paint up your war car in the style of one of the fighting factions: Viper Commandos, Freedom's Flame, Chemical Agents, and Truth Enforcers.

"There have been sightings of other, even larger ships, though details remain unclear on their abilities," wrote Baskin. "But we can't underestimate the squids, divers, and that's why we're assembling our best and brightest to push them back into oblivion where they belong."
