Apple Watch 2 Arriving With Larger Battery To Compensate For Faster Processor

As currently one of the more popular choices in the wearable tech market, there are plenty of expectations for the Apple Watch 2. Fortunately, Apple has every intention to answer these expectations, starting with a more powerful processor.

According to C|Net, there are actually two variants of the Apple Watch 2 arriving before the year ends. One model will reportedly have only minimal upgrades from the current smartwatch in the market. Those minimal changes, however, include a better processor and better waterproofing.

The second model will include both the upgraded processor and waterproofing capabilities, as well as a GPS, barometer and a larger battery. The GPS and barometer will allow for more precise location tracking. Meanwhile, the larger battery is necessary in order to power the device with its additional features.

The Verge adds that an LTE capable version of the Apple Watch 2 is likely to arrive in 2017. This means that the smartwatch will already be able to connect to Wi-Fi without having to first connect to a phone.

Meanwhile, the design of the Apple Watch is likely to stay the same. And while there may have been hope for a smaller variant, the larger battery has debunked this rumour.

Currently, the demand for smartwatches are at a decline, though Apple is still leading the race. Only 1.6 million Apple watches were shipped out during the second quarter of this year. On the other hand, as many as 3.6 million were shipped in the second quarter of 2015.

To compare, Samsung only shipped out 600,000 units of its own smartwatch. It is possible that the revamped Apple Watch 2 is what the industry needs in order to revive the market.

Meanwhile, the official announcement for the 2016 releases will come in about a month's time. This is likely to come with the official announcement of the upcoming iPhone 7.
