Future Tech: Apple Files Patent For Wearable Heart Reader

Apple is making a move to help people with their health issues. While the Apple Watch has a feature that tells wearers to move around if they have remained still for a certain period, the company is moving towards other developments related to health. According to CNET, Apple has just filed a patent for a health device that can be used as different types of accessories.

The patent application was published by the US Patent and Trademark Office. It shows that the device can be turned into different kinds of accessories; it can be fashioned into a watch, a ring or even a brooch.  The proposed device can perform an electrocardiogram or an ECG.

The patent application can be seen as a further attempt of Apple to get a piece of the market for medical devices in the United States. That market is very lucrative which is valued at around $148 billion.

A ring that can perform ECG is more like a niche item right now, but Apple's patent application shows a device that can be considered to be a tech advancement. While usual ECG devices would have different readings depending on where the device is placed, the proposed device by Apple has a calibration system that means it can provide consistent readings no matter where it is placed in the body.

This might leave many Apple fans excited about the prospect of having an Apple device in the future to keep track of their health. But according to Digital Spy, a patent application does not mean an actual device would be coming soon.

Many tech companies file for patent applications that do not go beyond that. Still, it would be worth watching out for if Apple will be coming up with a heart reading device in the future.
