The Blocking Wars: Adblock Plus Blocks Facebook's Efforts to Block Software

In what could turn out to be the start of an endless series of blocking, ad blocking software Adblock Plus announced that there is a way to get around the measures used by Facebook to stop ad-blocking software for its website. The Wall Street Journal reported that Adblock Plus gave instructions to users on its website on how users can get around the measures that have been enforced by Facebook.

The post on the Adblock Plus site gave the steps on how users can tweak the software so it will not be blocked by Facebook. With the tweaks, the software can once again block the ads. They even posted photo on the website to show that the tweaks would actually work and that their software can start blocking ads again.

When Facebook first took steps to stop the software from blocking ads, the company took it in a positive way. As reported by Tech Crunch, AdBlock Plus saw the move by Facebook as a kind of recognition of their efforts. They say that it was evidence that ad blocking has reached big time that even the big players are finally paying attention.

The people behind Adblock Plus recognized that Facebook could still come out with updates that would prevent Adblock Plus software from preventing ads from coming up. Facebook gets to load its ad on its own services. That gives the tech giant a distinct advantage over other companies that rely on third parties to display their ads.

Facebook is taking action because its revenues have been hit by the ad blockers. They say that the company's earnings have gone down since this software have become popular. Though it is only their desktop traffic that is affected by the blockers and the bigger part of the company's revenue comes from mobile device traffic.
