Italian Bishop Calls 'Pokemon Go' Diabolical

Italian bishop claims that popular augmented reality game "Pokemon Go" is "diabolical," since it turns players into the "walking dead" and likens the mobile game to Nazism.

Diabolical "Pokemon Go"

According to Nintendo Life, even if the popular game "Pokemon Go" has captured the hearts and minds of millions of fans all around the world, the Pokemon craze hasn't made fans of everyone, like so many other elements of popular culture. Agence France-Presse reports that Antonio Stagliano, bishop of Noto in Sicily, said that the "diabolical" game has alienated many young people by turning them into zombies.

After the recent horror stories of people losing their kids or crashing cars while playing the addictive game, some might say that the bishop's comments are just pretty fair. But the Italian bishop even went so far as to compare the popular mobile game with Nazism. In his opinion, both Nazism and "Pokemon Go" are totalitarian systems.

Actually, this won't be the first time when a connection has been made between Nazism and the Pocket monsters. There was a controversy back in the '90s, when Third Reich symbols were found in the card game version. However, it is a bit extreme to compare the addictive mobile phone app with an ideology that was responsible for killing countless innocent people and triggering the Second World War.

According to Comic Book, bishop Antonio Stagliano of Sicily has already lashed out against the popular "Pokemon Go" mobile game to several Italian newspapers. For causing thousands of children to become addicted to catching Pokemon monsters and walk about like zombies, the Catholic bishop claims that the game is "diabolical."

For the moment, Stagliano tries to get the game banned from Italy. In hopes of stopping the rising popularity of "Pokemon Go" in Europe, the bishop also threatened the game with legal action.
