‘Pokemon Go' Tips: Make Pidgeot A Tough Pokemon Gym Fighter

Many Pokemon Go players tend to ignore Pidgey when they encounter them in the wild. But a properly evolved Pidgeot could be a tough Pokemon Gym fighter.

Reedit user yoadknux posted an interesting take on evolving a Pidgey to a Pidgeotto to its third evolution, the Pidgeot. Its flying wing or hurricane attack can make this Pokemon a force to be reckoned with in gym battles.

Pidgeot - Flying Type Attacker

The Pidgeot is currently the only Pokemon that could deal pure flying damage to its enemies. Despite the low stats, the Pidgeot's Hurricane attack is considered one of the best effective offensive moves in gym battles.

Pidgeot - Gym Fighter

This winged Pokemon, based on its CP is effective in offensive attacks against Bug, Fighting and Grass Pokemon types. However, in real battle gyms there are not many fully evolved Grass type Pokemon creatures out there. Trainers are also reluctant to leave Bug type Pokemon defenders in gyms.

Pokemon players tend to favor Fire Type Pokemon instead of Pidgeot. The latter's flying attack however, does not decrease compared to a Fire Type when fighting a Water Type Pokemon. The Pidgeot however, is a weak gym defender.

Hatched Pidgeys Have Higher IV than Wild Ones

There seems to be some error in the Pokedex which grants higher IV to hatched Pidgeys than those caught in the wild. This prevents many Pidgeots from evolving the right movesets.

For this reason it is advisable for player to refrain from evolving their Pidgeotto to Pidgeot and simply transfer them instead. This will also save trainers from wasting precious EXP for evolving a Pidgeot which most likely has one good moveset out of six. As of now, only the Hurricane moveset is the Pidgeot's best weapon. The other five are not as effective. It is not worth level points since evolving the Perfect Pidgeot is doubtful at best.
