Apple iPad Still Leads Tablet Market; Nook Bites Kindle Fire Traffic Share

While Apple iPad is still maintaining its legacy since its launch in 2010 with a whopping 91 percent market share, the share has seen a little dip in recent past, reveals report.

According to Chitika Ad Network, which has taken into account samples of hundreds of millions of impressions, in May, the iPad had 94.64 percent of all tablet web traffic. In June, the figure went southwards. But iPad is still the biggest player in the tablet market and has the widest lead over its competitors. Among other competitors, Samsung Galaxy Tab has topped with a 1.77 percent share of traffic.

While Apple's win has become almost obvious in the tablet market, one surprising factor was the Barnes & Noble tablet which with its 0.85 percent of tablet traffic overtook the Kindle Fire in tablet traffic share, which accounts for 0.71 percent.

The result is based on Chitika Insight's analysis which has considered hundreds of millions of impressions ranging from June 4 to June 10, 2012 that they have received from the Chitika Ad network. The company then conducted a user agent analysis on the sample of data to determine the distribution of impressions across tablets.

Barnes & Noble's Nook Tablet was launched in 2010 and maintains a decent success in the tablet market. The story for Amazon's Kindle Fire is equally fascinating as it grabbed more attention than its B&N counterpart since it launched late last year and in one point of time was regarded as one of the major competitors of iPad. But the recent report from Chitika shows that the Nook tablet still has some fights left in it and has surpassed that of the Kindle Fire.

As we mentioned in the recent report, Samsung tablet has been spotted as the major player after iPad which should give the Korean company a relief as the company even a few months back accepted their failure to make impression in the tablet market. After the Samsung slate, Acer Iconica, Toshiba Thrive and Asus Transformer make their places in the chart and then comes Nook tablet followed by Motorola Xoom, Kindle Fire beating the BlackBerry PlayBook, HP TouchPad and Sony Tablet S.
