GoPro Hero 5 Black, Session Integrates Smartphone Features: Full Review

GoPro's line of action cameras are arguably the best in the market. The units are known for withstanding harsh conditions while being able to take top of the line photos and videos. Now, with the company's release of the GoPro Hero5 Black and Hero5 Session, its status in the market has just been strengthened.

Voice Command

According to Wired, both units of the Hero5 are now capable of taking pictures and footage via voice commands. That is, a simple "GoPro, take a photo" or "GoPro, start recording" is all that is needed for the camera to start making records. Theoretically, the only time that the camera itself needs to be touched is when the user wants to turn it on or off.

Realistically, however, the voice command feature is far from perfect. It does not recognize voice commands 100 percent of the time.

Harsher Environments

For the first time, the Hero5 Black and Hero5 Session are able to withstand being submerged in water for up to ten meters, without an external casing. Therefore, the issues of muffled sounds are diminished significantly. Furthermore, there will be easy access to all ports of the unit.

This means that straight out of the box, both of the new offerings from GoPro are able to endure during pretty harsh conditions.

The GoPro Hero5 Black

The GoPro Hero5 Black is the more high-end option between the two. It has a rubberish exterior and while the casing itself is easily damaged, the lens camera has proven itself worthy of the toughest environments.

Behind the camera is a 2 inch LCD touchscreen display, which shows plenty of details as it is well lit and is high contrast. Unfortunately, the screen requires plenty of battery life, only allowing 2 hours of continuous use on one full charge. Despite this, the Hero5 Black has the largest battery in GoPro's line of cameras.

The GoPro Hero5 Session

The GoPro Hero5 Session is considered the lower-end option, but can definitely still pack a punch. As noted by Tech Radar, the unit is capable of capturing images in 4K quality in a variety of different wide angles.

It is still considerable a large improvement from the GoPro Hero4 Session, as the Hero5 Session now includes an advanced camera sensor and video stabilization.
