Apple Falling Short of iPhone 7 Jet Black Models, Sales Still Low?

Apple's iPhone 7 Plus and the Jet Black model may be the most popular and coolest iPhones to date but report says that despite its strong demand, Apple may still not be able to make up for its expected sales decline.

3 days after its release, pre-orders for Apple's newest models have skyrocketed to more than 375% according to Financial Times report. Ming-Chi Kuo, a well-known apple insider and analyst noted that one of the factors of the iPhone 7 Plus and the Jet Black color's impressive market demand is driven by the ongoing global recall for Samsung's Galaxy Note 7 due to its faulty, exploding batteries. The dual-camera system of the iPhone Plus also added to Apple's sales increase for iPhone 7's larger versions.

However, it might just be unfortunate as the new Jet Black model suffers a low production yield rate of 60-70% due to factory mishaps. Kuo further revealed that 30%-40% of the jet black versions do not pass Apple's quality standards and are scheduled for an overhaul. This prompted Apple to delay its deliveries until November.

After preorders started on September 9, a survey was launched by KGI Securities showing that Jet Black iPhones accounted for 30-35% of preorders worldwide and China  with a 50% rate. The survey also indicated that 50% of preorders went to the iPhone 7 Plus.

Kuo believes that despite the popularity of the Jet Black version and the iPhone 7 Plus, Apple will still sell fewer iPhone 7 models in 2016 than iPhone 6s units sold last year. The company could only sell 70 million to 75 million this year compared to last year's 90 million
