'Battleborn' News: Overwatch Rival Denied To Be Free-To-Play, Says Gearbox CEO, Calling The Rumor Reckless

To those waiting for Battleborn to be free-to-play, we got bad news for you. We previously reported that Battleborn will be converted from paid to free-to-play in a couple of months' time. Rumor has it that it will be officially announced by mid-November but may change due to the hearsay that it has already been moved a couple of times.

The information was gathered from a person asking to be anonymous and made contact with Kotaku claiming that the developers had always wanted to make Battleborn free-to-play but 2K Games decided to retail it as a standard $60 game.

Hours after the rumor got out, Randy Pitchford - Gearbox Software CEO, posted a Tweet to deny all the reports about Battleborn going free-to-play, as reported by WeGotThisCovered.com.

Based on sales and player base, the game is not successful, thanks to an already handful hero shooters such as Blizzard's Overwatch rolling out the same month as Battleborn.

When compared to Overwatch, the games seem to have different points and features and number of people also reviewed Battleborn to be pretty good, nonetheless, Overwatch still dominated the market.

While 2K has not denied about the struggles that is currently experienced by the shooter, nothing has also been confirmed as of this writing. It wouldn't be a surprise if the game goes free-to-play since this has already been done with Evolve. It could even turn things around for Battleborn.

The game is currently available for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
