CES 2013: Samsung Shows Off New Series 7 Chronos And Ultra

Samsung continued its show of force Tuesday at the International CES when it displayed the next two updates to its Series 7 portfolio of high-powered laptops.

First, it unveiled the new Series 7 Chronos, intended for professional users. The computer is, of course, a lot more powerful courtesy of a new Intel quad-core processor and RAMaccelerator, enabling a 150 percent increase in processing power compared to its predecessor. In addition to obligatory keyboard and touchpad input, Samsung is offering a 10-finger multi-touch screen for direct interaction.

As for the body of the PC itself, it measures in at 21mm thick, with a 1920x1080p HD display, JGL optimized speakers, and a battery life of up to 11.5 hours. Storage of up to 1TB, 16GB of memory and a 2GB external graphics card round out this edition's offerings.

The Series 7 Ultra, meanwhile, differentiates itself with its thinner body (19mm) and lighter weight (3.6 pounds). It packs the same screen resolution, speaker system, and 10-finger touch capabilities as its older brother, as well as up to 256GB SSD storage powered by either an Intel Core i5 or i7 processer. 4G LTE connectivity ensures users can connect anywhere, and three USB ports means you won't be running out of places to connect your necessary add-ons. Battery power lasts up to 8 hours.

Both the Chronos and Ultra computers run on the Windows 8 operating system.

"2012 was a definitive year for Samsung's PC business - we expanded our lineup, taking advantage of the new form factors and consumer demand. This led to significant growth in the Industry," said David Song, senior vice president of IT & Mobile Communications at Samsung Electronics.

"In 2013, we will continue to focus on innovation delivering products that fit into customer lifestyles while maintaining Samsung's high-end design and performance standards," he added. "The new Series 7 Chronos and Ultra products are just two examples of what you can expect to see from us throughout the year."

Continuing a running trend, there was no word on price or availability.
