Neko Atsume News: Cat-Collecting Game To Get A Live-Action Movie Adaptation

Cat lovers, rejoice! And players of Neko Atsume mobile game, even more good news! Your favorite adorable mobile phone game is being reported to have a live-action movie adaptation set for release next year. So it might be a great idea to get acquainted with the 58 cats in the game for preparation, yes?

Neko Atsume: Kitty Collector

To those who don't find cat games to be interesting or have been living under the rock for a year, Neko Atsume is a free Japanese mobile game, created by Hit-Point, where you collect cats. And by collect cats, we mean how cat ladies do it. Kidding aside, the game starts off with you having an empty, boring garden where you place different types of food and toys to attract cats. And mind you, these cats have different personalities and favorite toys, just like normal, typical cats but less mean. When cats visit your garden, they leave fish as a thank you gift which you can further use as currency to get more food, toys, furniture and even expansions to, well, collect more cats.

Neko Atsume game was released in 2014 with more than 5.5 million downloads during its first year of release with Japanese as its original language. The English version was released Oct. 2015 and is available on both Android and iOS.

Neko Atsume Movie

Recent reports said that the upcoming Neko Atsume movie will star Atsushi Ito, a popular Japanese actor and it will tell the story of Katsu Sakumoto, a young author struggling with writer's block. After moving into a new house, he sees a cat in his garden. Fascinated with the creature, he starts leaving food overnight in an attempt to make friends with it. This is where his cat-collecting obsession starts.

Ito said that the way his character connected with cats made him reevaluate the way he deals with other people. "The contact I had with cats while we were shooting scenes was a healing experience and gave me lots of energy," Ito said.

Neko Atsume movie director, Masatoshi Kurakata explained why he chose this story for his next project, "I wanted to make a simple movie that gives off feelings of warmth. I and the staff and cast of the film really put our hearts into making the film."

Neko Atsume live-action movie adaptation will be titled, Neko Atsume No Ie, meaning Cat Collector's House. Will we get to see Joe DiMeowgio, Senor Don Gato or even Lady Meow-Meow in the movie?
