Google Pixel Update: New Double-Tap and Raise-To-Wake Features Roll Out

Google is seeding a new software update for Pixel users in Canada and soon to other parts of the world. This Google Pixel update includes two new features that users were waiting to get their hands on.

The latest software update for Google Pixel adds double-tap to wake and raise-to-wake features. These useful gestures were already available on older devices like the Nexus 6P, but Google chose not to include them in the Pixel. Now, the search giant seems to have changed its mind.

Google Pixel Software Update

As of now, the software update is only available for users of the Pixel and the Pixel XL smartphone in Canada. International users and customers in U.S. should see the update very soon. The new features included will make it easier for users to view notifications and check other information in a glance.

These features are already present in several of the rival smartphones. Even Apple included a raise-to-wake feature in iOS 10 and users loved it. According to The Next Web, users were disappointed to not find these features in the Pixel and Pixel XL.

The new Google Pixel software update weighs around 261MB and has the build number NPF26J. This is an over-the-air (OTA) update and will require a stable Wi-Fi connection to download and install. Once the update is installed, the new features can be found in Settings>Moves. Enable "Double-tap to check phone" or "Lift to check phone" to use the features.

Google Pixel Latest Firmware Download

Those who cannot wait for the OTA update to arrive, can download the firmware file and flash the update manually. DroidLife has posted links to download the firmware zip files for the Pixel and Pixel XL. Although, it is not known if the files are compatible with the International and Verizon versions of the smartphone.

For now, it is better to wait for the official Google Pixel software update to be available via OTA. The company will most likely roll out the update to users in the U.S. and other International regions.
